Tips To Help Your Pet Live A Longer And Healthier Life

Tips to Help Your Pet Live Longer

This month’s compilation is all about tips to help your pet live longer. The healthier we keep her, the longer she’ll be able to bring us all the joy and love in the world! These tips are all about wellness, and they come from PetMD – one of my favorite websites for information on how to keep our pets healthy.

I Only Eat the Finest Ingredients:

We all know the saying – you are what you eat! It’s no different for our pets. There are many benefits to feeding your FurBaby a healthy diet. If you’re noticing excess shedding or less-than-lustrous tresses, it may be a good idea to try a better quality food. A high quality diet can help your FurBaby “have a shiny hair coat, healthy skin, and bright eyes. [It] can help strengthen your FurBaby’s immune system, help maintain his intestinal health, help increase his mental acuity, help keep joints and muscles healthy, and much more!”(1)

Sorry, I Don’t Do Diets:

They say that abs are made in the kitchen – it’s no different for our Furbabies. If they are overweight, they are vulnerable to countless health issues! According to Lorie Houston, DVM, “obesity is the number one nutritional disease seen in pets currently and studies have shown that being overweight or obese can shorten a dog or cat’s life span by as much as two years. Why? Being overweight or obese puts your pet at risk for joint disease, heart disease and diabetes, among other things.”(1) If your FurBaby is overweight, a combination of the right food and some quality exercise may be all he needs to get back to health.

A Kibble A Day Keeps the Doctor Away:

It’s important to take you FurBabies to the veterinary regularly for routine visits. It’s not only important for regular check-ins, but also very important because vets can uncover health issues that you may not be aware of. (1)

It doesn’t always have to be a bad experience for your pet (or your wallet). If you need a recommendation, we at UrbanPawz love everything about Worth Street Veterinary Center, located in Tribeca. We absolutely love their approach and their love of animals is clear from the moment you walk through their doors.

The important thing isn’t where you go, but that you go regularly.

Show Them Pearly Whites:

Teeth are not only important because we love to see our FurBabies’ bright smiles, although that is our mission. Similar to humans, oral health is important for general health. It’s like the mouth is another window to your soul?

Keeping a clean, healthy mouth for your Furbaby can avoid heart conditions and kidney disease as they get older. (1) A lack of on oral health routine may even cause your FurBaby’s teeth to decay, and that’s something we want to avoid! It’s important to brush his teeth regularly.

We at UrbanPawz believe in oral health so much that we brush your FurBaby’s teeth with every spa treatment, and send him home with his very own toothbrush! There are also many treats that are meant to help keep his teeth clean, in the most delicious way possible. Feel free to reach out to us or your vet for recommendations!
